What satellite photos show regarding Israel's attacks on Iran
These include locations that analysts claim were utilized for air defense and missile manufacture, including one that was previously connected to Iran's nuclear program.
Buildings at what experts estimate is a significant weapons development and production site at Parchin, some 30 kilometers (18.5 miles) east of Tehran, have sustained damage, according to satellite imagery taken after the Israeli strikes.
International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) specialists have connected the facility to rocket manufacturing.
At least four structures appear to have sustained severe damage, based on a comparison of high-resolution satellite data acquired on September 9 and an image obtained on October 27.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has previously connected one of these complexes, called Taleghan 2, to Iran's nuclear program.
The IAEA discovered uranium particle evidence at the location in 2016, which sparked concerns about prohibited nuclear operations there.
Khojir, which lies roughly 20 kilometers northwest of Parchin, is another location that appears to have been the target of Israeli airstrikes.
"Khojir is known as the area with the highest concentration of ballistic missile-related infrastructure within Iran," according to ISS astronaut Fabian Hinz.
In 2020, a big, unexplained explosion occurred there.
At least two of the complex's buildings appear to have sustained significant damage, according to satellite images.
Damage to Iranian facilities thought to be connected to rocket fuel production at both Parchin and Khojir will eventually make it more difficult for Iran to "fire another salvo of the scale necessary to breach Israeli air defenses," according to analysts from the risk intelligence firm Sibylline.
Satellite imagery following the Israeli strikes also shows damage to a military installation at Shahroud, located approximately 350 kilometers east of Tehran.
According to Fabian Hinz of the IISS, this region, which lies in the northern province of Semnan, is important since it has been used in the manufacturing of long-range missile components.
Iran launched a military satellite into space in 2020 from the Revolutionary Guards Corps-controlled Shahroud Space Centre, which is located nearby.
With the current satellite images, it is challenging to verify Israel's claims that it has effectively targeted Iran's aerial defense systems at multiple locations.
We have satellite footage that seems to indicate damage to a location that experts have identified as a radar facility.
Jeremy Binnie, a Middle East specialist at Janes, a defense intelligence firm, says this might have been a recently upgraded radar defense system. It is situated on Shah Nakhjir mountain near the western city of Ilam.
The site was created decades ago, but according to open source specialists' analysis of satellite images, it has recently undergone significant renovations.
Additionally, we have discovered what appears to be damage to a storage unit at the Abadan Oil Refinery, which is located in the Khuzestan province's southwest.
We don't know what triggered it, though, and debris or malfunctioning defense systems could cause harm in some parts of Iran.
The Abadan oil refinery was one of the targets of Israeli airstrikes on Saturday morning, according to Israeli sources quoted in the New York Times.
Iranian officials announced on Saturday that Israel had targeted the province of Khuzestan.
According to its chief executive, the Abadan oil refinery is the biggest in the nation, with a daily production capacity of 500,000 barrels.
